My Hands are Full.

So, it’s been so weird. I haven’t knitted anything since the day before Sam was born. This is the longest I’ve gone without knitting something probably since I started knitting in 2005. Except for maybe my trip to Europe, but even then I had brought a project to work on during the plane trips. My fingers are getting a little bit itchy and I need to cast on a new project.

Oh, and I was going to show you the money shot my sister captured while she was here. Seriously, I am like dying over this photograph of my beautiful (um.. handsome?) son.

Sheesh. Totally head over heels in love with that chubby face. And that picture was taken on Thursday, Sept 8th, and he’s already gained weight and those cheeks are even bigger now. He’s two respectable chins now, too.

On Sunday we went to church! Here he is with his dad, all dressed up!

He wasn’t thrilled about having his picture taken…

And we survived. We kept our heads above water. We’re totally in love. It’s so awesome to see how Paul interacts with the baby. He comes home, and if I am holding Sam, he’ll say “Can I hold him?”  Hecks yes, you can! I love seeing him playing with the baby, giving him kisses and talking to him. It’s the most adorable thing I think I’ve ever seen in my life. My boys! I’ve got TWO of them to love.

And now, a parting shot. Peace.

Pink Penguin

Another commissioned penguin!

I really enjoy making these penguins. They are a lot of fun and are a pretty quick knit.

Plus, it doesn’t hurt that I’ve made them all in different colors and that helps patterns from getting boring or repetitive!

And man alive, I am getting tons of knitting done in the last few days before the baby comes, so if you want a custom order anytime in the near future now is a good time to order, because I am crankin’ stuff out like there’s no tomorrow! Email me if you want your own little penguin buddy! Or any other kind of little buddy! (lexikaye@gmail.com) You know you want one.

Cute Little Boy in his Sweater

Wow. I don’t usually leave the blog completely unattended for a week! I hope I still have some readers left after my long vacation! I will be sharing more pictures throughout the week, but I wanted to show you this little cutie, who belongs to my bestie Autumn, wearing the hoodie I made for him before he was born.

Now, it’s still a little big for him, but that’s ok, so it’ll fit him all the way through the fall and the winter.

Isn’t he just the cutest EVER? I just want to squeeze him and eat him up! And he’s a happy little thing, too. Oh, I can’t wait to have my own little boy to dress up in handknits! Six more weeks!

In Which I Have Trouble Going Back and Forth.

So I’m in the middle of working on two separate projects, and the gauge difference is kind of hard to overcome. I’ve never worked on two things simultaneously that have been so difficult to switch back and forth. I think I just need to finish one and then pick the other one back up.

And in case you’re wondering- the top (blue) project is a knitted tie. I know, I know. It’s a commissioned project, but I think it’s really going to turn out really awesome. It’s knit on size 1 needles (SIZE ONE, PEOPLE! That’s TINY!) on lace weight yarn, making it the smallest yarn and needles I’ve ever worked with before.  The bottom project (green) is a baby-bag that I am making for Togglebuttons. It’s sort of a swaddling blanket. Who knows if it’ll be the right size for him, but I’ve got a ton of this green yarn to use up so I am gunna make one. It’s knit on size 10.5’s with super bulky yarn (In other words, it took me about 1 hour to knit a square that’s about 16x16inches.) It’s really hard to adjust my hands between the two projects, so I think when we leave town tonight I am just going to leave one of them behind!

Well, we’ll be at our Family Reunion for the next week, so posting might be light (or non-existent, we’ll see!) Hope you all have a grand weekend!

Monkey!

Definitely still on a toy-making kick. I’ve got all these ideas floating around my head for more animal friends that I want to make, now.

I gave this little monkey a t-shirt because I didn’t quite have enough brown yarn to finish him off.

But I think the shirt turned out kinda cute.

Anybody got any name suggestions for this little guy? (I am going with Cornelius for the Elephant, thanks Rik!)

Oh man, I just LOVE making things for my OWN baby. It’s so exciting. I mean, I love making things to give away to people as well, and I love making commissioned items, but there is something so great about making something for your own little baby. Now just 7 1/2 (Give or take a few weeks) more weeks until we get to meet.

Elephant!

I made an elephant this weekend. And I really-really-really like this one.

And this one I am keeping for my own baby.

I based it on the Jessikin’s Elephant Pattern, but made a few big changes. Mostly I just wanted him to be bigger, and I didn’t like her skinny little legs, so I made some more substantial ones.

I am pretty pleased with him.

And now I am on a toy making kick. I’ve already cast on for another fun little friend for my Togglebuttons.

What should I name the elephant? I couldn’t come up with a good name- so you should all help out and suggest cute names for this little boy elephant.

Bear Hat

So I made a little hat for Togglebuttons. It’s a bear hat. I think it’s pretty cute.

Paul suggested that I add cream or light pink on the inside of the ears to make it a little more ‘bear’ like. What do you think? Add that or leave it as-is?

And, as always, my canister does a great job modeling the hat! (Goodness, I can’t wait until I have a real baby to model these things on!)

Togglebuttons Cabled Jacket: Finito!

Ok, so that’s a bit of a lie. I haven’t sewn on buttons yet, because I need some input from you guys on that. BUT! Without further ado, here it is!

Turned out alright, yeah?

See my favoritest part? Where the cable goes ALL around the hood? I LOVE that part.

The back! I almost wish I had done the two middle cables going up the back of the hood, but it’s too late for that and I am definitely not taking it back out again.

Closeup of the back cables.

Ok- so where is where I need your help! What kind of buttons would you guys put on this? I am thinking wooden ones, since I think it might be hard to match the orangy/rusty color of the sweater. OR, would you go for a contrasting color? If so, what color? I think the only thing I KNOW I don’t want is black, that would make it sort of Halloween-y, which I definitely want to avoid. What do you think?

Baby Boy Blue Blanket

So, I’ve got all these big projects in the works, and none of them are finished, so I thought I would take a break from actually working on them to show you some of the stuff I’m doing. This is my Baby Boy Blue Blanket, for Togglebuttons.

It’s definitely turning out bigger than I thought it would.

But I am love-love-loving the colors together and the way it’s striping up.

Aren’t those some good boy-ish colors? I think so.

I can’t wait to wrap him up in it! I can’t believe how rapidly September is coming…

A Catch-Up Of Sorts.

I am having a ‘blah’ sort of day… I think it’s that weird getting back into your regular schedule after coming off of a long vacation, you know? Also I’ve been having extremely weird and vivid dreams. Most of the time my dreams are kind of scary (I’m usually being chased by someone who wants to hurt me) and I think that they’re real the entire time that I am asleep and when I wake up I am all freaked out. But last nights dream was especially real and strange. I dreamed that my baby was born really premature and tiny, and I got a very clear picture of what I thought Togglebuttons is going to look like. (If you were wondering, in my imagination he looked a lot like Paul with curly brown hair and blue eyes) It was a very vivid dream that went on for what felt like hours. Anyway, I’ve just been trying to catch up on housework and things that haven’t gotten done since we were gone for a week and a half. I’ve already gotten the laundry done (AND folded, AND put away. A new record for me!) now just the kitchen and bathroom need to be scrubbed and that’s my goal for today.

As far as crafty stuff goes, I’ve got my needles and hooks in a lot of different projects right now… so many, in fact, that I am needing to put a few of the more non-urgent ones away so that I can make sure to get some of the other ones (orders and such) finished within a reasonable amount of time. For instance, I am making this vest for my baby boy, but it’s a 6-9 month size, so it’s pretty obvious that I don’t need to be working on this one urgently.

Also, I am working on this Granny Stripe Blanket, (also for Togglebuttons) and it’s just so fun to work on that I can’t put it down. I love doing Granny Squares, Granny Stripes, you name it, I love doing it. it’s so nice to not have to count ripples or stitches and just be able to mindlessly crochet while watching a movie or something. It’s not the greatest picture ever, but I’ll get a better one when I do the big reveal.

And a few more custom orders for Lemon Curd Hats, this time in dark purple and dark green. I do love making these hats, because I’ve made so many of them now I don’t need to look at my pattern or anything, and they’re on the smaller end (as opposed to a blanket or something) which makes them nice and portable!

And there’s several more that I won’t bother to take pictures of, like the quilt that is 1/3 done, or the mobile which is currently just a stack of yarn waiting to be made into something, and another baby hoodie which hasn’t gotten to a point worth taking a picture of yet.

Oh, and I can’t wait to show you all of my lovely birthday presents, too! (Most of it includes yarn! Woo!) and of course I’ll pop in tomorrow to do the weekly “You Knit What?!”, so stay tuned!
