Monkey Hat

I was commissioned to make a monkey hat for someone, and couldn’t find any good knit patterns, so I made one up! Although the prototype I made ended up being too small for the recipient, so Sam got to keep it. Too bad, right?

I’m pretty happy with it!

Sam wasn’t going to give me any smiles during this photo shoot, though.

So I tried tickling under his chin… no luck. That almost always works!

Almost a smile???

Buuuut, now it’s gone. And it’s been replaced with a glare.

So, I am thinking about writing up the pattern for this hat… eventually. It’s a pretty fun one! When Sam wore it out and about last week he got lots of compliments on his funny little hat! But before I write it all out, I just want to gauge interest in it… is there anyone out there who would actually make it, or should I even bother with it?

Red Stocking

I made a red stocking for Owen Aberle.

It’s a bright and cheery Christmas red color.

and a braided cable! I love braided cables!

this was my first stocking, but now that I’ve made one I know that it’s not all that hard, and I’ll certainly be making some more this coming year!

I want to make them for all 3 of us, (and for future children) but I am torn between wanting to make all matching ones with names on top, or having everyone had a different color but all the same style, or all different styles and all the same color. Any input?

Baby Sack

I never posted these pictures of Sam in the baby-sack I made him!

It was handy during those first few weeks where he wanted to be really cozy.

I can not believe how tiny he was!

What a teeny little squirt he was! With barely any cheeks!

These were taken on 9/14/11, when he was just 11 days old! Goodness- I’ve already almost forgotten those newborn days!

Headband, with a better flower.

So, this was the headband I made for the Giveaway winner, but I figured out how to make a better flower for the headbands!

My crochet skills are totally lacking, so I am happy to have (finally) figured it out!

Now I am thinking that I need to open up the wrapped ones that I am giving away as Christmas presents and make new flowers for them…

Little Red Dress

I made a little red dress for one of my friends newest arrival, Poppy.

It has a button up in the back. I modeled the yoke after the Shalom Sweater (and funnily enough, I made the dress out of the yarn I unraveled from the sleeves of my Shalom sweater!) And I tried it on Sam to make sure it would fit a baby. Man, Sam would be a cute little girl! But I didn’t take any pictures, I don’t want to be that mom. You know, dressing your son in drag might be frowned upon…

And I also got some of these cool tags at Michaels to add to my knitted creations that I give away. You know, just incase they forget who made it.

I am hoping to get a cool sewing machine one of these days where I can embroider my name on them all professional-like, but until then, a Sharpie will do just fine.

Ok- off to finish my Christmas orders. I am nearly done with them! Whew!

Christmas Decor

We’ve got all the Christmas decorations up now!

We’ve got the perfect little 3 foot tree! It’s quite adorable!

“The stockings were hung from the ship’s wheel with care…” Pretty sure that’s not how the words go, but hey, we don’t have a mantel!

But here are our real stockings-

Sam really likes Christmas lights. We can set him in his bouncy chair in front of the tree for several minutes before he gets bored!

Well, he thinks it’s fun and then all the sudden I get this face staring up at me:

Then we find a new activity. Like sleeping!

Have you guys all decorated for Christmas? I just love how good the house smells with this tree up! Yum!

Month 3

A few days late, but here are Sam’s monthly photos! Here’s a link to Month 1, and Month 2, in case you missed them! And  here is a link to a page that I’ll be updating every month with all of the pictures together, so you can see them side by side!

Sam With His Bear:

Sam in his Crib:

Sam with Crocheted Pillow:

Sam’s big growth spurts seem to have leveled out. He hasn’t gained much weight this month, but I’m ok with that because he’s still wearing all of the same clothes!  He’s 12 lbs, 1 oz (as of 12/3/11 and just about 22 inches) Looks like we’ve got a shorty on our hands, ladies and gentlemen- he is only in the 3rd percentile for height! But I am sure he’ll catch up. I’m pretty short, too, so it’s not a huge mystery which side of the family he gets that from.

We’re still working on figuring out Sam’s grumpy moods. He tends to be on the colicky side, or a “high needs baby”. He is a pretty demanding kid who always wants to be held and never under any circumstances wants to be put down if he is awake. Still getting up about 3 or 4 times a night, no matter how much we try to do a schedule or follow the “eat, play, sleep” routine he just likes to get up to say hi, and grab a bite to eat before settling back down. But lately we’ve had a few good days sprinkled in with the bad, and it’s so nice to have a happy and smiling kid at least a few days a week! But it is getting easier to deal with, mostly because I am finally learning his signs and can do something before he has a major meltdown! He is pretty social, though, and is usually pretty good if we are out and about, and he loves Chloe, because she dotes on him like nobody else.

But, hey, we are getting there and trying to stay cheerful because this too shall pass, right? He won’t always be an infant, and while I love my son (very much!) I am a little anxious for the next stage in his life. But we are going to enjoy this one while we’re here.

Don’t forget to check out the monthly pictures side-by-side here!

Baby Boy Blue Sweater

Another custom order! This time for a little blue sweater, 12-18 month size.

I really like it, and will probably be making Sam a few, now that I’ve got the pattern down, I hadn’t ever done the button over the shoulder before, but I really like it!

It’s knit up in scrumptious Cascade Superwash. I love working with that stuff.

Washable wool, is there anything better? I think not.

Norwegian Sweet Baby Hat

Another Norwegian Sweet Baby hat, this one for a custom order.

We’re back to using the coffee canister to model hats, because this one (18 month size) is huge on my own baby model.

We got our Christmas tree all set up this weekend, and Sam had a lot of fun helping out.

I’ll put up pictures of the finished tree later this week, but now I am going to go snuggle my baby and try to get into the Christmas spirit! (And try to finish up some Christmas presents!)

Another Headband

This one is also for a Christmas present- I’m just on a roll knitting these headbands. They’re a lot of fun and a pretty quick knit.

Excuse the undone hair and no makeuped face. Ah, the life of a new mom! You are all so jealous, I know it!

And today (insert very excited squeal here) we are going to get our Christmas tree! I am probably the only person in the house who really cares about it, but I am very excited none-the-less, I really want to start decorating the house, but without the tree it seemed kind of silly, but once we get that tree in here it’s game time! Have a great weekend, everyone! Go bake some Christmas cookies!
