A DIY and a Giveaway

So, a combined post- a DIY and a Giveaway. First, I will show my DIY. Ruffly Headband!

You will need:
Scissors
Aprox 1/8th yard of lightweight fabric
A Ribbon
Needle and thread

Cut 10 of the fabric into squares roughly 3 inches across and 10 into roughly 4 inches across. Sizes don’t really matter, really, the rough edges add to it’s charm.

Then fold those squares into quarters:

Trim them round, don’t be afraid to cut off quite a bit of fabric, you don’t want the ruffles too big.

Once you’ve cut them all into rounded quarters they should look something like this:

Then take one of the squares, pinch it up like so:

Then take one of your other squares, and pinch it around the outside of that one:

Then starting somewhere around the center of the ribbon sew it laying flat:

There are about 10 ‘flowers’ on my headband, sew them sort of pointing alternative directions, to give it lot of fullness.

Sew them all on, and tada, a ruffly headband!

So, as the Giveaway, I am giving away the Ruffly Headband shown here.

Two ways to enter:

1. Leave a comment telling me how much you want this cute headband
2. Link it onto your blog you gain yourself another entry BUT make sure to leave A SEPARATE comment telling me you’ve done so, to make sure that you get an extra entry!

The winner will be drawn Wednesday, March 17th, 6:00 pm.

Good luck!

One Year Ago

One year ago, today, I was jumping on a flight to Europe. It was one of the best 2 weeks of my life. I’ll never forget it.

Seriously, you girls rock my world.

Could a girl have any better friends? (Or crepes by Monte mart?)

See more (and more to come) on Kissa’s blog.

My bounty.

I came back from Tacoma with a much fatter suitcase. I could barely get it zipped. That’s because I got some awesome-tastic yarn. My mother and youngest sister Heidi decided to go to Value Village to check around. Sometimes you find some gems. I found this:

Well, 3 skeins of it, to be exact. For 99 cents. 100% wool for 99 cents! And to have them all be the matching dye lot was just above and beyond.  I’m not sure what I want to make with them yet, but it’s a lovely grey color. Yum.

Then I went to Lambs Ear to just pick up a skein of the red Cascade Yarns Eco Wool to finish my sweater vest.

But then, right next to it, there was this completely gorgeous yarn…

I’m not sure what it’ll be for yet, but probably another sweater.

Isn’t it so pretty?

And I also got this lovely brown for my Buttony Sweater that is soon-to-be started.

Terrible picture, I know!

So today I am at home, sick, again. Not too sure what’s going on with my immune system at the moment, but we’re trying to get things all healthy! So, I’m going to sleep on the couch!

The real update

Spent the very bumpy plane ride reading a great, well worn book.

So, I got to spend lots of time with my family and quite a bit of time with friends, and definitly got to hang out with my favorite little bud, Ezra. He’s so interactive now, and alot of fun to play with. He also got to sport his new hoodie from Auntie Ali.

And the old man sweater I made him quite a while ago, however, still too big!

Isn’t he the cutest? And it actually snowed for a few minutes while we were there, so Ez got to see some of that white stuff. I don’t think he liked it very much, It was kind of cold.

I am actually going to post a whole new post on the yarn I got this weekend, so stayed tuned. Also doing another giveaway this weekend!

Updated…

Pictures, projects, new yarn (9 skeins over one weekend. Yikes!) lots of stuff to share, but now it is bedtime. Tomorrow I will update! Several new projects to show you!

Signing off for the weekend.

I’m packing, packing, packing. Feverishly trying to remember if I can bring my knitting needles on the plane, or should I bring my embroidery, but if I do that can I bring my scissors? Are they allowed on the plane? Should I take some crocheting? The hook is a pretty harmless looking instrument… Oh decisions decisions. Take the camera? Risk breaking it in the luggage?

Oh! Remembering to pack pajamas and a toothbrush. The two things I always forget.

Wish me luck, I hate flying.

Embroidery

I bought some embroidery thread today.

I started working on it this evening after band practice, while watching the new episode The Office.

So don’t laugh, it’s my first try…

Maybe I should have watched some kind of tutorial or something. Or read some directions. But I guess I’m just a learn-as-you-go kind of girl. So we’ll see how it turns out.

My amazing husband.

So, I was having a rough day yesterday and my shoulder has been giving me alot of trouble lately, and it was just a bad day. So, today, when I got off work P had dinner ready and a present for me!

He got me Ponyo! I love, LOVE, love this movie. We saw it in theaters and I was singing the theme song for like a month. It’s such a good film.

But now it’s time for band practice! Being in a band is really fun. Check out our Youtube channel if you want to hear some really unfinished, quickly thrown together stuff. We’re planning a CD release soon (we’ve been doing lots of recording, and P’s been doing alot of mixing!) so hopefully we’ll get a CD release party soon. I’m pretty excited about that.

Oh, and I picked up my embroidery stuff today at Michaels- I’ll be sure to post my progress!

Tomorrow I leave for Tacoma! I am so excited!

Alright, signing off for the night!

Is it Friday yet?

No?……

How about now?

I am so looking forward to this weekend and getting to spend some time with my most favorite people on earth! (and quite frankly, the cutest little man I’ve ever met, I’m sure you all agree! I mean, just LOOK how cute he is!

I can’t wait to squish his little face, oh, and make him wear his new sweater.

I am also pretty much dying to make a pair of these for him: Cranky Pants! Aren’t they cute?

But sadly they don’t have a pattern for sale, so unless I want to buy them ($80, how about…n.o.) I may try to figure it out, but maybe I’ll just make a cute pair of striped longies. Someday, when I have kids, I hope I still have time to knit this much!

Update on P’s sweatervest: It’s coming along nicely. Just about up to the shaping of the neck (that’s where things get tricky…) so, wish my luck and as soon as something interesting happens with it I’ll be sure to post it.
