Twins!

My cousin Kjerste had twins a few weeks ago and I got to meet them when I visited my family 2 weeks ago. It was so great to be able to meet these beautiful little girls (Katja and Karena!) And they got some matching purple hats.

Are the girls beautiful? All wrapped up in hand knit blankets, too!

I’ve got several more projects to show you, as well. I’m just WAY behind on blogging due to the “Christmas rush”! Speaking of which, if you have any Christmas knits you’ve been wanting to order, make sure you do it soon, before I run out of time!

Exciting news!

Knittybutton was featured in the Canon Press Christmas Catalog! It’s on the bottom right hand corner of page 11!

They featured the Vandal Baby Helmet, and have a link through there to order a few other styles of hats, so if you are in the market for some Canon Press books, you can order a Knittybutton hat to go with it for your favorite baby!

It’s a…..

GIRL! And we couldn’t be more thrilled! Baby Girl Tong is growing nicely, and measuring a few weeks ahead (Sam did the same thing in utero!)

And oh my goodness, I have so much knitting to do for this little girlie! I am so excited to try out fun lacy sweaters, and cute beanies and cardigans. April it will still be chilly, so this little girl will definitely get some very tiny cute hand knit warm things to keep her nice and cozy!

Happy Halloween!

For our church’s Halloween Festival we dressed up. Can you guess what we were?

DSC_6596

Bob Ross and his happy little tree! We saw the idea on Pinterest and thought it’d be a pretty easy one to pull off, especially with Pauls hair on the long side this year!

Sam got to be a minion from Despicable Me, with a hat made by me and some thrifted overalls and a clearance rack yellow shirt!

DSC_6593

DSC_6592And yes, bear-bear, his ever constant companion is by his side. Always. Bear-bear gets to eat snacks with Sam, gets to drive trucks and tractors with Sam and also gets to snuggle up in bed by Sam. He is definitely his favorite toy!
We also got to hit up some of the downtown section of Moscow today to see some fun costumes and get a little bit of candy. I also bought 7 lbs of chocolate, and we got a grand total of four doorbell rings…. chocolate for another day, I suppose!

Also, if you are planning any Christmas orders from me, get them in soon! My schedule is already filling up!

Pink Sock Monkey

I got the opportunity to use a sweet little Ellie model for my pink sock monkey. Isn’t she just the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?

She was so smiley and obliging, except when we tried to get the costume on her, but once she realized how awesome she looked, she couldn’t help but smile.

Many thanks to her sweet mama, Rachel, for lending her out for a photo-shoot in the park on a chilly fall day.

I’m down to the 2nd to last sock monkey before Halloween, almost done with it, then just ONE MORE TO DO! Whew.

How to make fruit leather

This past weekend I had a hankering for fruit leather. I had a lot of plums on hand, so I thought I’d give it a whirl. First, I washed them, cut them in half and pitted them. DSC_0207

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees and bake them for 20 minutes. They should come out looking a little carmelized on top like this:

DSC_0208

Next, you’ll need to puree them. This can be done if you have a good blender, or if you have a food processor. We have The Ninja, which I absolutely love. (Makes awesome baby food, too!)

DSC_0209

Since my plums were quite tart and not quite ripe I added about 1/2 cup of sugar for the whole lot (which was about 3lbs of plums)

DSC_0210

Then puree it up until it has a very smooth gloopy consistency. You’ll need to be able to spread it quite thin, so make sure everything is blended well and there are no big chunks of fruit.

DSC_0211Btw, at this point, you should taste it to make sure it isn’t too tart, if you don’t want it to be. Totally up to you how much or how little sugar you add, I wanted them to be a bit sweet, but 1/2 cup was plenty for this batch! Then take parchment paper and line your baking pan with it and make a THIN layer of puree onto the parchment paper.

DSC_0212I cannot stress enough that it needs to be thin. Mine ended up too thick in the middle and it ended up being a bit gooshy in the middle bit, still tasty, but quite a bit more messy while snacking on! Put your oven on it’s lowest setting. Mine has a “Warm” setting, and that works splendidly. If your lowest setting is 200 or above, stick a wooden spoon in the oven door to keep it slightly open- you don’t want to bake it, you want to dry it out, so if it gets too hot it will turn quite hard and crispy.

DSC_0213
Bake for 6-8 hrs, or as long as it takes until it’s no longer tacky to the touch. My first batch was WAY too thick and ended up dehydrating overnight to get leathery! As long as it’s not baking or getting crispy, it’s ok to let it sit in there for quite a while.

DSC_0214If you can pull up the corner like this, you’re good to go. It should peel off of the parchment paper quite easily. I left it on the parchment paper for storing it, so it wouldn’t stick together.

DSC_0215I used a pizza cutter to cut it into strips, pressing firmly enough to cut through the parchment paper as well, so I could use it for storing. If you are concerned with your pans (Mine are old and gross, so no worries there) you can transfer it to a cutting board and do it on there.

DSC_0225Then, I rolled them up and put them in a Tupperware to avoid them getting stale, since I made a pretty big batch and I’m not sure how long it’ll take us to go through it all!

A pretty tasty snack, and WAY cheaper than buying fruit leather at 50 cents each!

Apple Picking

This past weekend we went apple picking with some good friends. Sam wasn’t terribly interested in the apples, but was pretty much in love with the tractors.

We’re planning on making some apple butter with the delicious apples we picked, and maybe some fruit leather as well, if we have enough apples! And, my sisters and niece and nephew are coming out tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited to see them! We’re planning trips to the Farmers Market, seeing the Homecoming parade downtown and a few other fun things. I can’t wait to see them, and I love how much fun Sam has with his cousins.

And happy HAPPY news, I’ve made it to 12 weeks with this little TizzyTong! I am thrilled. I got to hear the heartbeat yesterday at my midwife appointment, and all is looking great. We are beyond thrilled that we’ve made it this far, and praying for a healthy and full-term pregnancy!

Cabbage Patch Hat

I had someone request a Cabbage Patch Doll Hat for their daughter for Halloween, so I got to test my hand at crocheting again. I don’t do it very often, so it’s always a fun challenge when I do.

Sam was less than thrilled at the result, but I couldn’t resist snapping some shots anyhow.

Still trying to catch up on all of my Halloween orders. Sock monkeys are still being cranked out. Currently working on a pink one (SO FUN) as well as working on a collaboration with Canon Press for their Christmas Catalog! How cool is that?

Jaiden’s Birthday Sweater

I made a WSU colored sweater for my sweet little friend Jaiden for her 2nd birthday.

I completely managed to forget to take pictures of it until I was wrapping it, so the photos are not very good. But it’s just grey and crimson- a fun stripey sweater for the fall.

Also, a fun picture for you- Paul and I went to a fun 20’s themed birthday party and got to get all dressed up! I didn’t manage to get a picture of us together, but here is one of me from the party:

Sorry for the blog absence, I’ve been very, very busy. Working on a few big projects, the biggest of all won’t be complete until April! That’s right, I’m knitting together another baby! We are thrilled for Sam to be a big brother.

Today we took Sam to the county fair. It’s pretty small compared to the fair I am used to going to (Do the Puyallup!) but Sam had a great time seeing the train exhibit (He is obsessed with trains!) and the poultry. He definitely was not a fan of the donkeys, but he did like the goats. It was pretty hot outside, so we didn’t last too long, but glad he got to enjoy a little bit of the fair.

Most of my time these days is knitting a lot of sock monkey costumes for Halloween. I’ve sold quite a few for this Halloween season (Sold out, actually!) Those should take up the next couple of weeks, and then getting started on Christmas orders already!

I’m also making a few changes to the way I do custom orders here at Knittybutton and will exclusively be doing online orders through Etsy. I will still be doing custom listings still, and you can still email me or message me to request custom orders, but instead of mailing checks or invoicing you, I will create a custom listing on Etsy for you to purchase. It will help streamline the whole process.

That said, I am already getting Christmas orders, so if you have something you would like to order, please let me know as soon as possible, so I can make sure to get it done before Christmas.
