Oh my.

So I was sitting here shivering on my couch, thinking I was getting sick because even with the heater cranked I just couldn’t get warm!  I’m glad to know that I am not getting sick (at least not anything non-pregnancy related!) and it’s just THAT cold outside tonight!

Keep warm tonight, folks.

February Lady, Finished.

I finished my February Lady yesterday.  I miraculously also found 3 matching buttons.

I don’t think I’ll stay with these buttons, but they work for now, plus we were having a dinner party last night and I wanted to wear it, so I grabbed the 3 that matched.

And here you can see my kitchen sink! (Look! No dirty dishes!)

I am liking it without sleeves for now. I can always go back and add them on later if I feel like I want them. Also, I only have about 1/8th of a skein of yarn left, so that would mean ordering more yarn… so it’ll probably remain sleeveless.

The reason I waited so long to make this sweater was because this style of shirt typically ends up looking maternity on me, even when I wasn’t pregnant, so when I found out I was, in fact, pregnant, this was the first knitting project I started, because now it can look maternity and that is just fine with me.

February Lady, and February in Moscow.

Wow. This week has been very white. We’ve gotten snow dumped on us for the last 3 days, and supposed to get more throughout the rest of the week. I am so glad that I haven’t had to work the last few days, because my car is so bad in the snow and going out first thing in the morning is kind of scary!

This walk was just shoveled a few hours ago. There is also this huge pile of snow next to our front door, it’s about 3 1/2 feet tall. I feel like it’s never going to melt. Probably not until like April or so.

White… as far as the eye can see.

BUT, since it’s been so wet and snowy out, I’ve gotten a lot of work on my February Lady done!

The back. Also, I can’t seem to get a consistent color of this yarn in my pictures.

It’s more like the second picture, but not quite that “limey”. So.. yeah. The lighting stinks in my living room and I didn’t think about it enough to take it into the kitchen where I have good lighting. So, you get crappy pictures.

Also, I am debating on whether or not to add sleeves to it? I’ve seen both versions and I like them both, but man, I am really torn about this one! Any opinions? The sleeves would be done in the same lattice pattern as the lower body of the sweater.

12 Weeks, but I didn’t have any limes.

So, I didn’t have any limes laying around in the produce drawer, so no fruit for comparison to the baby.

Although that belly may just due to the fact that we went out to breakfast this morning and I had a big plate of huckleberry stuffed french toast. Soo.. you know, that may just be from breakfast and not from Tiny Tong. I felt kind of silly taking a picture where you can’t really tell that I’m pregnant, and I just look chubby, but I thought my family might want to see.

And joy, oh joy, today Paul got the day off, so we’ve had a leisurely day chilling out around the house, going out to breakfast, and now he’s doing homework (story of my life) and I’m going to watch some Top Chef, because it’s kind of chilly out and I don’t have anywhere to go. But I don’t have to work until Thursday (yippee!) so I have a feeling I might get through the whole season of Top Chef in the next 3 days.

Any of you have any grand plans for today? Do you get the day off?

The Ultrasound

The baby was jumping around like crazy during the ultrasound, waving its little t-rex arms all over the place and bouncing up and down. It was hilarious. I’m not going to lie, I was really, REALLY nervous about this ultrasound. I kept having this awful feeling that something was wrong, but hearing the perfect heartbeat (162 beats per minute!) It took a while for the baby to calm down enough to get a clear picture, but it was good to know that the baby was an active little guy/girl!

And I am so excited to announce that they moved my due date up a week! Hooray! I am now due on Sept 4th, instead of the 11th. Which means that I am like this close to the end of my first trimester! (One week to go until 2nd trimester! woo hoo!)

Ok! So now I need your help. We are in need of a good in-utero name for the baby. I don’t want to keep calling it just “The Baby”, so I am soliciting your awesome in-utero names for our baby! (We’re keeping the real name a secret until the baby is born, but we’ll probably tell you if we find out if it’s a boy or a girl) So, leave a comment if you can think of any great names. 🙂

Exploding Glitter and the like.

So, you know, I work at an arts and crafts store now. It can actually be a lot of fun. I work with pretty cool people, and I get to talk to people about their projects all day, which, let’s face it, I’m obsessed with crafting. But sometimes there are just some weird things that I’ve never had to deal with, not really being in retail before.

Today for example, a young mother with 3 kids came up to the register, and the oldest girl (I’d say she was about 4-5 years old) wouldn’t put her plastic glitter bottle on the counter for me to scan. The mom went through her “Put the glitter on the counter so she can scan it” routine about 4 times, then she said she was going to count to 10, so she counted to 10…. 5 times, the little girl was clutching her bottle of glitter and was not going to let that bottle go. The line is starting to get really backed up behind these customers… I politely ask the little girl if she can at least just hold it up so I can scan the barcode and she hurls the bottle of glitter at my face! I quickly ducked and it hit the wall behind me and exploded. Glitter EVERYWHERE. The mom just looked up at me, stared for about 10 seconds, walked away from the register, got the little girl another bottle of glitter and said “I’ll take this bottle instead.”

Another customer comes with 3 items and her total is about 15 bucks. She hands me a $100, no biggie, I’ve got several twenties in my drawer. As I pull out the twenties she asks if she can have her entire change in $5’s and $1’s…. Seriously.

Oh, and you lady? The one that handed her kid that candy bar from the shelf? I saw your kid eat it. I also saw it when you tried to leave the wrapper in another aisle.

And please don’t let your kid play with the plastic bag with 150+ googly eyes in it. I saw the bag rip open, I saw googly eyes all over the floor, and yes, I saw you try to scoot them under the shelf with your feet.

Ah, the joys of working retail. Do any of you have any great customer stories for me that would make me feel better?

Uh….what?

Ok. So it’s been lovely here so far this month. I mean, yesterday I didn’t even wear a coat. It’s been clear skies, beautiful sunsets, warm temperatures, well, warm for Moscow in the wintertime. And then there is this morning…

BAM! More snow, this picture taken right outside my door not five minutes ago. Also, I woke up with a bloody nose. Gross.

Me and several friends just had a conversation on Sunday that went something like this:
“I think it might actually just be almost spring”
“Yeah, I don’t think it’s going to snow again this winter”
“I’ve never seen a February this nice”

Etc, etc, you get the picture. Sheesh. And the bad thing is, I actually have things I need to get done today, places to go, people to see… I am hoping that my car will be ok, but since the majority of the roads have already been driven on I should probably be fine. But STILL. Ew. I am ready for spring. But today will be good. I’ve got these:

And cute Primroses from my husband that are making my house look very cheery. And I get a haircut today! Hooray for that. I’ve been wearing it in a ponytail everyday because it has started to get mullet-y. Uh, no thank you. I swear the back of my hair grows faster than the front, and when your hair is down past your waist it doesn’t really matter, but when it’s short, well, then it matters greatly. Yes sir.

Ok. Well, I should go get going about my day. Need to make some sort of dessert for dinner with some great friends. (I loooove making dessert) and head down to the post office to mail a little something-something to my newlywed bestie. And finish working on some projects that need to be completed before babies arrive (as in, soon). Have a great snow day, Moscowvites, and have a great whatever-other-kind-of-weather-you-have day, everyone else!

Valentines Cookies

Since we’ll be busy all day tomorrow we made our Valentines dessert today. I decided not to make that heart cake, mostly because it just seemed like too much work. So, sugar cookies it is.

I love sugar cookies. Especially with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles.

Yum. They’re delicious. We’re enjoying them this evening while watching movies and snuggling on the couch.

Hope you enjoy your evening, and you should bake yourself something tasty!

Beef Stew

I had to work a little bit late last night, so I decided to make a crock pot dinner, so that I could eat as soon as I got home. Turns out it was an awesome idea.

I had some beef in the freezer and a bunch of veggies that needed to be used up.

And it turned out totally amazing. I definitely needed that hearty delicious dinner after work yesterday! And Paul even made biscuits to go with it!

And today, well, today I am going to lay low, sit in my pile of tissues and try to recover from this cold I’ve gotten. I hate being sick! I haven’t been sick in 4 months, which I am pretty sure is a new record for me! So being sick on top of morning sickness, well… you know how fun that is!

I’ll be back a little later today with the “You Knit What?!”, I’m just moving a little slowly today!

February Lady

So my goal for February is to finish my February Lady Sweater.

I don’t think I will actually finish it, but it’s good to have goals, right? I’ve only got one project that’s being made right now for someone else (At least that I am getting paid for) but right now I am just doing like 5 feet of stockinette stitch, so this sweater is just the perfect thing to mix it up with. The lace pattern is simple enough that I don’t need to keep the instructions up, but hard enough that I need to at least be paying attention. It’s the perfect project.

In other news, I started my new job today. Seems pretty straight forward so far, just hoping that it stays low-stress, because I am all about no stress these days. Also, I think I need to buy some more comfortable shoes, because standing all day is not something that I am used to. So if any of you locals needs some craft supplies, stop in and say hello!
