Knitted Nativity

I had someone request a knitted nativity set, so here it is.

Mary, Joseph and Jesus.

There’s even a little lamb to go with it.

She just requested these 4 pieces, so there’s no wisemen or shepherds, but I think I might make another set for myself, but with all of the pieces.

Little lamby

Now, a bit about prices. It turns out that these are quite a bit more complicated than I anticipated them being, so if you are interested in the whole set (Which would include Mary, Joseph, Jesus, 3 Wisemen, A shepherd, a sheep and a donkey/horse) It would be $100. I’ve looked at a few other ones people are selling, and they’re all well over the $100 mark. (Examples here and here). If you would still like me to make you one please email me @ lexikaye@gmail.com so I can get started on the orders before the next holiday season, so you can enjoy them all Christmas long next year. Unfortunately due to time constraints and lots of other Christmas orders I won’t be able to make any for this coming Christmas.

Grey Lemon Grass

Made another Lemon Grass slouchy hat for a Christmas order.

It’s a bit softer than the other three I’ve made, since it wasn’t made with such a bulky yarn, but I think it turned out nicely.

A New Hat

I just got in from shoveling our walkway, and whoa, I am exhausted! It decided to melt a little, snow some more, then freeze again, so it’s ice, layered with another coating of snow, then another layer of ice… a little frozen lasagna of winter. Lovely. Also, someone (uh, me) forgot to throw away all of the little pumpkins on our porch before we left for Texas, so I also had to wrestle those off the porch (they were frozen to the cement) and throw those away. It was kind of gross. Imagine me trying to wrestle a giant frozen pumpkin in the snow, I am sure the neighbors thought I was hilarious.

Anyway, all that to say, I had to go outside today to take pictures of a hat I made while I was in Texas, it’s for a Christmas present, so I won’t say who it is for, but I hope she’ll like it.

I really ought to just wait until Paul gets home to take these pictures for me, but until I learn better, you just get crappy self portraits.

I used the same amount of cast-ons, ribbing and increases as my Lemon Curd Slouch, but instead of making it slouchy I just started my decreases quite a bit sooner to make a tighter fitting beanie.

Oh, and it’s totally lovely out today. I mean, besides being freezing, but the skies were so nice and blue today, hadn’t seen the sky in a while, it was getting kind of depressing. It did melt some today so we got more icicles, which is always pretty.

Our poor other car is still stuck here until we can get it into the shop. (It’s throttle is frozen open, talk about scary times trying to start the car! Yikes. I about wet my pants.)

This is the view from my front porch. I KNOW, right?! Look at those pretty hills!

Mmm, frosty and beautiful.

I do like the snow, as long as the snow doesn’t end up all over the roads, making it hard for me to get around, then being unemployed is no fun.

I still have yet to go sledding or snowboarding, anyone in Moscow want to take me sledding?

Felted Slippers

I made two more pairs of felted slippers for a Christmas order. These turned out much better than the last set!

Prior to felting:

Don’t these look ridiculous? I didn’t think they would work out… but surprisingly enough they are so comfy!

After felting:

Eh. Sorry for the crappy pictures. Do you know how hard it is to take pictures of your own feet? Really hard!

The trick is, right after felting you have to put them on your feet before they are completely dried to make them more foot-shaped. It worked really well this time.

If you’re interested in a pair to keep your feet warm this winter, just drop me a line and we can discuss prices and colors.

Angel Fish

I made this angel fish a while back, but forgot to take pictures of her! It’s another Christmas order.

So, here is a picture of all of the little animals that are still in residence in my crafting room. I’ve already mailed out quite a few of them, so this isn’t all of the ones I’ve made, but it’s a good portion of it.

I also wanted to start on the December Photo project today, so we’ll see if I can get that up today before midnight!

Starfish

Once again, my husband steals the show with his awesome photography skills.

I think I’ll have to take a picture of all of the animals I’ve made so far all together in one big underwater zoo. The list of little animals is just growing and growing!

Another little turtle

I made another turtle this week for a Christmas order. I wouldn’t normally show you this, since, well, you’ve seen several of them (and I just finished another one today) but since Paul took such cute pictures of this one, well, I just had to show you. I’m fairly certain that there is some kind of story line here, although I am not entirely sure what it is.

Isn’t that adorable? I think Paul will have to do all of my photo shoots! He’s much more creative than I am.

Orca Whale

This one was a bit harder than anticipated. The other patterns have come to me fairly easily, but this one presented a few unique challenges. So here he is, without further ado.

Mr. Orca whale, on a map of Orcas Island!

Once again, thanks to my dear husband who has taken it upon himself to do all of the photo shoots lately.

Alright, and here is the pattern:

Repeat process for the 8 stitches you pulled onto stitch holder for the second fin of the tail.

For the white spots on the side of the head I just took while yarn and a yarn needle and just embroidered them onto the head. Attach fins and tail and enjoy your Orca Whale!

Ok, so I know that was kind of a long and involved pattern, but if you notice any mistakes PLEASE leave a comment letting me know, since I usually write up the pattern after I have already made the whole thing, so sometimes I forget a step or two!

Week in review

Vacation blogging is never as fun for the readers, and for that I apologize. I’ve mostly just been lounging about my parents house, soaking in the wonder of unemployment. Crazy having all this free time. It’s kind of nice. And then on Tuesday we leave for Texas for Pablo’s sisters wedding and Thanksgiving. I’ve never been to Texas before, I’m kind of excited.

I’ve still been a little bit crafty, even though I’m not home. I did make a turtle, 3/4ths of a fish and a whole starfish. No pictures yet, since they still need faces, but I forgot to bring the black embroidery thread to finish them off, so pictures of those are forthcoming. However, I did make an apple galette again, although it looks like it’s been shot.

It was a little leaky, but I think it looks like blood. Kind of gross, yes. It still tasted good, so whatever.

Also, some obligatory pictures of my adorable nephew, with whom I’ve gotten to spend a lot of time with this week.

I love this picture, because I caught his tongue in action!

Also, I’ve been tossing around the idea of making these for my married friends for Christmas, pretty funny, no?

They’re called Smittens! I am not sure if anyone would actually think they are funny but me, but I still think they’re hilarious.

I’ll be back in Idaho tomorrow, so hopefully regular blogging will resume soon!
