Monthly Archives: August 2010

I don’t normally get this much done at a craft night.

But it’s coming together nicely! I can’t believe that I knit this in five separate pieces and without even trying the stripes lined up perfectly! I have no idea how in the world that happened.

I kind of forgot buttonholes until I was already halfway done with the 2nd front half. Soo… guess this one is going to have toggle buttons or something? I haven’t quite gotten that far. So, now all I need is to block it, weave in the 10,000 loose ends (Stripes! Why do I even knit in stripes! It makes SO many more ends to weave in!), figure out buttons! And then it’ll be done!

So I am aware that this doesn’t look like anything right now.

But later tonight, oh, it’ll be something.

Not that I would have changed my wedding flowers in a million years, but how fabulous are these?

(Succulent Bouquets)

Flora Grubb Gardens made these amazing Succulent Bouquets.

I’m not sure why, but I’m totally obsessed with succulents lately.

Flora Grubb also has this completely fantastic Succulent Terrarium.

(Succulent Terrariums)

Aren’t these the best, EVER?

Although, these are maybe my favorite. I adore these.

(Succulent boutonnieres)

Thanks for putting up with all of my incessant talking about succulents lately… but I guess now you all know what to get me for my birthday or Christmas!

Yesterday Paul got some fabric markers and decided to draw on the back of one of his sweatshirts.

Pretty cool, no? He wanted to have a hoodie that had the Grumpy Joe Vandal on it. Joe Vandal is the U of I mascot, and apparently back in the day (I’m not sure how long ago) the logo had a grumpy Joe Vandal on it, but you can’t find it anywhere so he decided to just make one!

Since I don’t have room for a garden (And we were moving right when we should have already had plants in the ground) I opted for a cute little porch garden, which is completely portable. I’ve been collecting succulents when I see them at the store or at the farmers market, and now I’ve got a pretty good little collection!

(Succulent Garden, front stoop)

I got this guy at the farmers market this morning to add to my collection.

I gave the blog a little facelift! I was kind of bored of the really clean setup I had before. The only thing is that I can’t get rid of the huge fonted “KNITTYBUTTON” right at the top. It’s the only thing I don’t really like about this one, but otherwise I’m pretty fond of how it turned out. What do you think?

In other news:

(Farmers Market Peaches)

(Farmers Market Heirloom Tomatoes)

(Farmers Market Blueberries)

But my very, very favorite from today were these beauties!

(Crazy huge sunflowers)

(Shaggy sunflower in Kombucha bottle)

(Shaggy sunflower in milkglass vase)

(Sunflower trio)

I just can’t get enough of these sunflowers. I wish I had more of them to spread the joy around the house. Does anyone (Mom?) know what variety those are? I can’t ever remember seeing crazy ones like that before!

This girl has been collecting awesome spools for over 8 years!

And look what she did with them!

How creative and awesome does that look? I wish I had ideas like this on my own, but instead I am destined to just get inspiration from people on the internet…

Yes, it’s Saturday morning, 1:18 am, to be exact. And I’m still awake! Whoa nelly! Anyhow, before I crawl off to bed, here is an amaaazing woodpile! I love unexpected art like this.

I am getting ready to say goodbye to my fingernail… it’s going to fall off pretty soon.

It doesn’t hurt much anymore, but I am afraid that once the fingernail falls off it might be really tender! I am kind of a wimp, so I am trying to keep it on as long as possible.  I’m afraid to play my guitar or do too much with my hand for fear I will accidentally hit it and knock it off.

I started this new sweater on Thursday. I am excited about it, you’ll know why when I’m done.

It’s purple and cream. I love purple and cream!

Also, I got a jade plant to go into my succulent garden on the front stoop.

I haven’t potted it yet, but I’ll get around to it one of these days. But I can’t spend any more time outside right now because of this:

No, it’s not cloudy. Nope, it’s not foggy. It’s smoke and dust. It’s disgusting. And it makes it extremely hard to breath for me.

Anyway, we’re trying to keep indoors and keep the air clean inside our humble abode.
