Buttony Update

Since I’ve been home sick, I’ve gotten alot done on my Buttony Sweater while lying on the couch coughing and feeling pretty gross. When I was gone last weekend to Tacoma Paul wasn’t feeling well, and thought it was allergies, but when I got home and got the same thing 2 days later, well, we’re pretty sure it’s not allergies! But I digress, the Buttony:

I’ve almost completed the bodice. About 4-5 more inches to go until I end the bottom. And then just adding sleeves (which to me is the worst part, I don’t know why)

But I DO love how the raglan style does sleeves. It looks like I sewed it together, but it’s all ONE piece, which is great because seaming is pretty much the lamest thing ever. Ever.

Ew. That picture makes it look gross and acrylic. It’s not, people. It’s made out of my fav Eco wool.

By the time I finish it I probably won’t have the weather to wear it until next fall, however, as we’re still getting snow flurries and freezing nights, I think I might get a chance if I finish it up soon!

A quick link for you, Charissa posted a super cute DIY for a fun, bold necklace. I am definitly going to try it out, so you should, too!

New Headband and Little Lamby

Last night I made another headband for the Birds on a Wire fest we went to, (And will be attending again today)

And I made that little lamb.

Before the stuffing.

After the stuffing.

So, I was going to use black bead eyes, but I didn’t have any, and didn’t feel like going out to get some. So I made it with white buttons. It might look a little too Coraline for me, but we’ll see. Cute, no?

A DIY and a Giveaway

So, a combined post- a DIY and a Giveaway. First, I will show my DIY. Ruffly Headband!

You will need:
Scissors
Aprox 1/8th yard of lightweight fabric
A Ribbon
Needle and thread

Cut 10 of the fabric into squares roughly 3 inches across and 10 into roughly 4 inches across. Sizes don’t really matter, really, the rough edges add to it’s charm.

Then fold those squares into quarters:

Trim them round, don’t be afraid to cut off quite a bit of fabric, you don’t want the ruffles too big.

Once you’ve cut them all into rounded quarters they should look something like this:

Then take one of the squares, pinch it up like so:

Then take one of your other squares, and pinch it around the outside of that one:

Then starting somewhere around the center of the ribbon sew it laying flat:

There are about 10 ‘flowers’ on my headband, sew them sort of pointing alternative directions, to give it lot of fullness.

Sew them all on, and tada, a ruffly headband!

So, as the Giveaway, I am giving away the Ruffly Headband shown here.

Two ways to enter:

1. Leave a comment telling me how much you want this cute headband
2. Link it onto your blog you gain yourself another entry BUT make sure to leave A SEPARATE comment telling me you’ve done so, to make sure that you get an extra entry!

The winner will be drawn Wednesday, March 17th, 6:00 pm.

Good luck!

A Little DIY for you.

A teeny-tiny DIY, you don’t need to know how to knit, crochet, sew or anything. Just how to cut a (mostly) straight line, thread a needle and make a braid.

Braided Headbands!

So, first you start with some fabric, I used some leftovers from the cloth we have above our bed.If you use a patterned one (like I did) it’s a bit more fun, but if you used contrasting colors it would be fun too)

Cut it into 9 strips, about one inch wide and about 12 inches long. Measurements are approximate, and the thicker you want your headband, the wider you should cut the fabric.

Take 3 strips, braid together, repeat with other 6 strips so you have 3 braids, like so:

Take the 3 braids, sew the ends of them together, and this next bit is up to you, you can sew ribbons on, like I did:

You could also use elastic, or something like that. I took the lazy road and instead of hauling my sewing machine out, rethreading it, etc etc… I just hand stitched it instead. And TADA! You have a headband. Cute, no?
