December Photo Project: Day 16
Christmas knitting, drinking coffee, watching Muppet Christmas Carol and wearing my favorite slippers. A good morning, for sure.
It’s finals week.
Yeah. So, that means that most of the time Paul is:
A) At work
B) At School
C) Studying
D) All of the above
If you guessed D, well then, wow! You are right. I am ready for finals to be done so I can have my husband back. Not that I mind that he is doing well in school and studying to ace his finals. No, no. This is good! So I try to be supportive and make him little snacks. Like cookies, with a tall glass of milk!
That there, that is the best cookie recipe I’ve ever, EVER, ever made. It’s Mrs. Jack’s recipe, and you girls from Faith Pres, it’s in the church cookbook! I’ve honestly never tasted a better recipe for chocolate chip cookies. (And it uses a whole 4 sticks of butter, so they better be good!) Let me know if you want the recipe and I will send it to you, if you are one of the unlucky few to have a church cookbook (worth their weight in gold, I tell you).
So last night, while cutting up an eggplant, I sliced my left thumb up real bad. (Not bad enough to need stitches, thank goodness, which is good cuz my insurance was up the end of November) but just bad enough to prevent me from doing normal things like washing dishes, or knitting at a regular speed. But there is so much yet to be done by Christmas…. sorry family, I had great plans for knitted gifts for you, but there are so many Christmas orders that I just couldn’t do it… so instead of being awesome and making everyone handmade gifts, well, we are lame and are giving you store bought things.
This picture sums up how I feel about:
1. Having two bum thumbs (yeah, my right one is still all messed up, too, FROM AUGUST!)
2. Not having time to knit gifts this year (I even had the yarn bought and the patterns picked out!)
3. My husband having finals week
So there it is, all of my whining is done. Back to regular knitting related posts tomorrow.
I made The Daily Knitter’s Free Pattern of the Day! I am so excited!
I’m not sure how well you can see it, but it says:
“Today’s free knitting pattern for Tuesday, December 14, 2010 is Orca Whale”, with a link to my blog and the orca whale pattern I posted a few weeks back!
I’ve also been linked (with 3 of my patterns) to Knitting Pattern Central, which is a huge resource for free knitting patterns, knitting tips and help. And then that combined with my Ravelry Page, there are a lot my patterns popping up on the internet! It’s a lot of fun to see other people making my hats and little animals! So, if you are one of those people that’s made one of my patterns, please let me know! I am so curious to see how they’ve turned out!

Ok. So Paul named him, not me. But I thought it was kind of a cute name for this little guy.
He’s another Christmas order
I’m really glad that people request animals, because they’re so much fun to make AND I would have never thought to knit a frog!
So, just so you know, feel free to request any kind of animal and I’ll see what I can do (except a lobster. I tried that and failed miserably…)
The second of 3 hats requested. I had a tiny thumbnail of a picture of something she liked, so I wrote up a little pattern for this hat.
It’s kind of a funny little hat. Again, I don’t have a baby head to model this on, so our coffee canister will have to do…again.
I’ll post the pattern below.
Double Pom-pom Baby hat (Unless you guys can come up with a better name for it!)
Supplies:
Size 4 DPN’s
3 colors of your choice (I used all Vanna’s Choice Yarn)
Pom-Pom maker
Cast on 72 stitches in Purple, join in the round
Rows 1- 8: *Knit 2, Purl 2* Rep to end
(Switch to white)
Row 9-11: Knit to end
Rows 12-14: Purl to end
(Switch to pink)
Rows 15-17: Knit to end
Rows 18-20: Purl to end
(Switch to purple)
Rows 21-23: Knit to end
Rows 24-26: Purl to end
Switch colors every six rows, repeat rows 9-26 two more times (For a total of 9 horizontal ribs)
Bind off all stitches, lay flat and whip stitch closed. Using a pom-pom maker make two pompoms out of the pink and attach to top corners and voila! Enjoy your baby hat.
So, Knittybutton readers, I need some help. I’ve been working on this pattern for a few days now.
So, what kind of names can you come up with for this pattern? It’s a pretty simple knit-purl pattern, but it almost looks like tiny cables running throughout the pattern.
The only things I can come up with are Harry Potter themed names like “Diagon Alley” or something silly like that…uh, you know, cuz it kind of goes diagonally?
So, if you can give me a good name for this scarf, maybe I will be awesome and send you something in the mail.
I made this angel fish a while back, but forgot to take pictures of her! It’s another Christmas order.
So, here is a picture of all of the little animals that are still in residence in my crafting room. I’ve already mailed out quite a few of them, so this isn’t all of the ones I’ve made, but it’s a good portion of it.
I also wanted to start on the December Photo project today, so we’ll see if I can get that up today before midnight!
So while we were in Texas (we just got home this evening, hooray!) Paul’s dad took us to see the Ice! Exhibit at the Gaylord Texan (A huge resort near Dallas). Guys, let me just say, this was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen!

The theme was “A Charlie Brown Christmas” and these were all made out of blocks of colored ice.

And they are really, really big. Also, you get to wear these big, blue, extremely warm parkas!

Oh, and did I mention that it was only 9 degrees in there? Brr!

My cute husband in an ice tunnel.
But wait, next was my very, very, very favorite part.
A way-bigger-than-lifesize nativity scene. It was so beautiful!
