Wrap Sweater

So I know it doesn’t look like much right now, but the whole body is done, and I am 1/2 way done with one arm, then the other arm and the hood are all that needs to be completed. Well, that and finding suitable buttons. That is always difficult for me.

I know it looks really big for a 1 yr old, but it has to wrap around them 1 1/2 times, so I am hoping it’ll fit by this winter. If not, there’s always next year.

Nimbus

So I just got some yarn in the mail.

It’s not quite as olive as the picture lets on.

I believe I will be making the Nimbus,(see below)

(I would modify it quite a bit, full sleeves and drop the waist)

OR the Drops Sweater

because I am very partial to hoods.

So what you think?!

Red Cable Blanket

I finished my red blanket.

I’m pretty happy with it. It’s small, but I am pretty tired of working on it, so I decided to cast off today.

It’s about 3′ x 4′ or so. But I was getting sick of doing cables.

Basic pattern:

Cast on 146.

RS:Knit two, purl two, knit 6, purl two, rep to last 2 stitches, K2
WS:Purl 2, knit 2, purl 6, knit two, purl 2, rep to end

Repeat these two rows for 8 rows.

Every eight rows do a cable row as follows: Knit 2, purl 2, slip 3 stitches onto cable needle, hold to front, knit next 3 stitches, then knit the 3 stitches from cable needle, purl two, rep to end.

Brown Cable Knit Sweater

So, I finished it last night (well, finished but no buttons and not blocked)

The front.

Even the sleeves have cables in them.

The back.

I just have to pick out some buttons, and then block it. I want to make another one, now that I’ve made this one and I know how I want to change the hood a little bit, and do a few things differently, but all in all, I really like it. I like it a lot. This one might go in the keeper box. We’ll see.

Brown Sweater

I’ve gotten a significant amount done on the brown cable knit sweater.

That’s the back and the two halves of the front there. All that’s left is the sleeves and the collar. Although I am kind of thinking to put a hood on it instead of a collar. I just like babies in hoods.

It’s a fun pattern, a lot easier than I thought it would be. What do you guys think about the hood vs collar?

**votes are in, we’re making it a hood**

Aviatrix

I’m not really all that pleased with this hat. It turned out several sizes too large, and the pattern has some bumpy spots, I think when I make it again I will  make some changes.

It’s supposed to look like an aviator cap, but Paul mentioned it looked more like an old football helmet. Oh well, live and learn.

Booties!

I made these yesterday. Cute, no?

I recycled the yarn from a pair of socks that I wore once, but didn’t really like the way they fit.

The only problem was finding 4 buttons… I had 4 different kinds of small brown ones, so we’ll just call it good and don’t look too closely, because none of them match.

In other news, we’re leaving for the weekend, see you on the other side.

And another dress

Hot off the press.. er..needles.

(not my finest camera work, I apologize, but it’s 11:00pm and I am ready for bed and don’t feel like editing it)

Good thing it’s done, it is supposed to meet its new owner, Lily, tomorrow.

Nigel wearing his sweater and Bess’s dress

A little flippy, but that’s ok.

A lot blurry, but that’s ok too, I just got a picture of him wearing it, which is what I wanted.

And the dress for Bess’s baby girl

which I FINALLY got a picture of. I am kind of ridiculous, I forget to take pictures of things before I give them away!

A DIY: Soap Sack

So for todays DIY we’ve got something that might seem a little strange, but I made one and I like it, so I thought I would just throw it out there in case anyone else is interested in it.

Get out your wool (it should be a natural fiber, only)
First you just knit yourself a long rectangle, about 1/2 wider than your bar of soap. I put a little cable in mine, just for fun.

Then measure it up to your soap, make sure it can wrap all the way around it.

Then simply sew it into a pocket, drop the soap in, and sew up that open end.

and here you are:

And since it’s made out of the wool, it will slightly felt in the shower, and it makes good suds!
