*Edit* Apparently this pattern isnt very well written and a lot of people are having issues with it. So I am taking it down until I have a chance to look it over and re-write it. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I’d like to make this, but I’m confused about the instructions. (I’m a newbie, so please excuse me if the answer is right in front of me!)
From what I’m reading, after the brim, it’s just knit the whole way (plus increases/decreases) which would be stockinette, but the finished hat is clearly not. What am I missing?
Thanks!
M,
You’re not missing anything. It is actually all stockinette stitch, just with decreases and increases! I know it doesn’t look like it is, but I promise π
Hmm…it looks so textured. Is it the increases that make the pattern? Or the yarn you used?
Hey, unless I didn’t quite understand what you meant by knit 4 make 1, that does fit perfectly into 80 stitches, so this part: ” (I donβt think that this works out perfectly for 80 stitches, I think I was left over with 2 stitches if I remember correctly, I just added one more stitch at the very end)” would be irrelevant. Unless I’m completely missing something? 4 fits into 80 20 times, and the extra added stitches are irrelevant because they’re being added, right?
I’m only a few rows past this into the hat, so I haven’t seen the final product yet, but wanted to pass along that feedback.
I have a question- it says “repeat rows 12 and 15”. that means knit a row, increase a row, knit a row, increase a row. I think its supposed to be “repeat rows 12 thru 15”, right?
correct! Sorry about that!
I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I’m not getting the texture that I see in your photo. Mine looks more like stockinette with holes, and the holes are cute but it’s not like yours. I’ll probably finish it anyway (it’s supposed to be a christmas present and I think it will be pretty cute when it’s done) but I’d love to know how to get that textured look!
What a beautiful hat! I’ ve been looking everywhere for the perfect slouchy hat, just one question about the pattern though. What type of increase did you use?
Hi, I’m having the same problems where it looks like stockinette with holes. I’m not increasing between rows 12-15 (as don’t see how it does in pattern). Looks like should be more like bump (raspberry stitch) . Want to look like yours so any help appreciated. Thanks!
2 questions:
1. Can I use circular needles? If so, what length? I’ve never used double pointed needles.
2. My daughter has a small head. What is the finished size?
Thanks!
Stephanie,
yes, you can use circulars, just find the shortest pair you can. Or you can use any pair and use the Magic Loop Method.
I don’t have the hat (it was a gift for someone) so I don’t have final measurements, but would fit an average adult head.
Hello, I have a couple of questiones, I’m afraid I’m no expert at knitting.
I don’t understand the “decreasing bit” where you say … *Important Note! All of your decrease rows will be on the βRow 12β of the 4 rows that you repeat, so it will be every 4th row! Rows 13-15 will be the same that youβve been doing the whole time. *
does this mean I knit instead of row 12 decrease row 1, for explample, then rows 13 to 15, then decrease row 2, then 13 to 15 etc… ?
and my other question is do I just repeat rows 12 to 15 until they reach 9″ I seem to find it is slowly decreasing, is that right?
Thanks, great web page!
What is K2T mean?
Please Please WHAT IS K2T?
Please can you tell me if the needle size is U.S. or Canadian many thanks
NOT SURE WHAT SHE MEANS…K2T, BUT I THINK IT MEANS….
KNIT 2 TOGETHER. WHICH ARE THE DECREASES THEN ALSO ARE WE DOING YARN OVERS ALL THE WAY AROUND?
WISH SOMEONE WOULD COMMENT THAT HAS FINISHED THE HAT!
IT LOOKS REALLY CUTE!
I am not getting the pattern at all….actually looks horrible….Seriously I own a yarn shop….what up buttercup?
You said in your note that row 12 is the decrease row but if you look at it, it is row 14 that is the decrease row.
Oops! I for got to finish my question. Which one is the decrease row? Row 12 or Row 14?
Thank you for this pattern! It will be the next one I try for the hats I’ve started making for a charity/community project at the LYS.

Hi,
Hi,
I have a question, what does MAKE 1 mean?
Thank you.
